The fact that the ALA shared this link is so gloriously bitter and angry and I love it.
Is there a portmanteau for that? Angritter? Bangry?
Amazon is searching for all kinds of ways to get little chunks of change out of readers, isn’t it?
The scary thing is that clueless people are already calling for us to shut down libraries in favor of this plan. (PS: just this once, you should read the comments. The author is a droning tool and the librarians take him to pieces.)
But hey, let’s look at numbers! Amazon has 600,000 titles available for lending. That;s a lot, right?
My library system has 9,000,000 volumes. Even if three million of those are James Patterson books, that’s still ten times the number of titles that Amazon is offering.
And it costs, you know…zero dollars.
NEVER EVER CLOSE LIBRARIES.
